The University of Sheffield Medical School has over 1250 medical students registered on the MBChB medicine degree with many of the students in the later years undertaking their clinical placements outside of Sheffield and across the wider Yorkshire and Humber Region. The medical school recognised that in order to enhance their medical careers advice for students, this would need to incorporate the use of Technology Enhanced Learning.
An Adobe Connect series of careers talks, delivered by inspirational and engaging speakers were scheduled from early 2018, allowing access to all medical students regardless as to their location. It allows students to have a glimpse into a day in the life of a clinician, understand the career pathways and gain insight into ways in which to enhance their opportunities.
The session by Victoria Hughes, Student Affairs and Assessment Officer from the Academic Unit of Medical Education at the University of Sheffield demonstrates how these have been organised, managed, delivered and received (by both clinicians and students).
