In this video, Chris Bailey describes his work involving a Minecraft club at a primary school where he was formerly a teacher. Now a PhD student in the Faculty of Development and Society at Sheffield Hallam University, Chris focuses his study on the development of the Minecraft club, specifically looking at how a group of individuals make meaning whilst participating in virtual world play.
Chris talks us through some examples of ‘micro-narratives’1 from the data he has collated to date, and how so far he has found that play around virtual worlds can be extremely social, providing opportunities for people to connect in ways that would otherwise not be possible.
