The Aerospace Engineering degree programme has for a number of years offered a module on private pilot instruction. This involves students taking all of the exams necessary in order to obtain a private pilot licence, as well as five hours of flying experience.
This session will look at the design of flight simulator laboratory classes to support the theoretical learning of practical elements for the exams.
In order to develop and run teaching that enhances the student learning in these modules, members of the universities Aerospace and Flight Simulator Society have been instrumental in the development of supporting material. This session will look at both how the students developed their materials, and how the active learning process enables the students to gain these very practical skills in a simulation environment. Although grounded in the teaching of Aerospace Engineering, the focus of the talk will be how the students implemented professional level learning to support the study of their less experienced peers.
