Carlotta was arrested and imprisoned in the United States of America. She now works with offenders and ex-offenders to change their lives through art and cultural interventions. In this video, Carlotta reflects on her own experience after prison, and on the experiences of those she has helped, to discuss some of the key challenges facing women as they desist from crime.
Following her release from prison, Carlotta trained as a teacher and became interested in the rehabilitation, wellbeing and education of offenders. Acquiring a serious criminal record, however, prevented her from teaching and working with offenders. Instead, Carlotta set up an arts charity called STRETCH which aims to widen participation of offenders and ex-offenders in museums and galleries.
