Professor Tim Birkhead has been based at the University of Sheffield for over 40 years. Throughout that period, he’s been carrying out an annual population study of the guillemots that breed on the island of Skomer, just off the coast of South Wales.
The data Tim has collected over the last four decades is unique and valuable. By understanding how Skomer’s guillemot population has reacted to factors like pollution, climate change and over-fishing in the past, his research helps us predict how other wildlife across the world will react to similar threats in the future.
