- Make sure you have no distractions
- Focus on spelling, grammar and punctuation, not the content
- Find a system that works for you - split up what you're looking for, e.g. on one read through look at spelling, and another look for grammar
- Take notes if you spot an issue
- If you change a few words, proofread the entire sentence/paragraph again
- Check facts, dates, quotes, tables, references, and text boxes outside of the main text separately
- Become familiar with your frequent mistakes
- Check the format last
