In this video we will discover how organisations in Sheffield are providing safe spaces for disabled children to connect with nature.
The first part of this video takes place at the Blooming Autism allotment in Sheffield. We will meet two parents of autistic children who, together with a third family, founded the charity Blooming Autism in late 2013. The families are working together to develop a safe, welcoming, community space for autistic children and their families to be, share, play, relax and grow food together. We’ll hear what they have say about their project, their hopes and fears, and their children’s experiences of playing on their allotment.
We’ll then meet Sarah Blackwell, Chair of Forest Schools Education, a non-profit social enterprise which runs training for practitioners to work with children and their parents to learn to play freely, and to connect with nature in an outdoor environment.
