On 11 March 2011 there was a magnitude 9.0 earthquake off the coast of Japan, one of the biggest earthquakes ever recorded. This caused a powerful tsunami and also led to nuclear accidents at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.
Since the disasters occurred, Helen Woolley has twice visited the affected area of Japan’s Fukushima Prefecture, in March 2012 and April 2014. Here, she shares some of the insights from her research into this unique situation in the world.
