Rahul will also be talking about the University’s world-leading nuclear-AMRC facilities and how he and his colleagues are helping to tackle climate change.
At the Nuclear AMRC Rahul is responsible for projects like automated inspection of cleanliness of nuclear components, surface metrology and residual stress measurements using electronic speckle pattern interferometry for nuclear manufacturing. The benefits of nuclear power generation and its impact on reducing carbon footprint encourages him to apply his skills in metrology and inspection, to make nuclear a safer and achievable alternative to the current energy options.
Along with his research career, Rahul won in the Great British Bake Off in 2018 and the Great New Year Bake Off in 2021. Since his appearance on Bake Off he has used his profile to encourage and promote STEM subjects among school students, including hosting workshops with local schools to demonstrate the science of baking. These workshops have had a huge impact on students, highlighting the fun of science and engineering
