This lecture looks at different approaches to designing retaining structures and takes in a gradient of different details from low cost bank stabilisation using geotextiles and vegetation through to more costly and heavily engineered cast in-situe retaining walls where a civil engineer would be involved. The lecture focuses on their visual impact in the landscape and how vegetation might be integrated into their design to lessen their visual impact and as an opportunity to create space for habitat.
