A chord is a simple musical term which describes notes that are played at the same time to create a block of sound. Usually there are three notes in a chord and they are formed by adding notes of the scale together.
In this video, Adam shows us how to form chords and plays three of the main chord types: major, minor and diminished. Notice how the chords are labelled in two ways; by chord name and their position in the key (in roman numerals). For example, the chord of C Major (in the key of C) can also be described as ‘chord I’ in that key and the chord of G major could be labeled as ‘chord V’ since it is based on the 5th degree of the C scale.
