Andrew Hitchcock, Molecular Biology & Biotechnology. Trichodesmium (or sea-sawdust) are unique bacteria which live in the ocean and help sustain aquatic life. Trichodesmium species are particularly common in waters where the crucial nutrients they need to survive are scarce. In the lab we are interested in how the bacteria acquire these vital nutrients in the vast oceans they call home.
