The 2016 NSS indicates that the University of Sheffield’s performance on indicators relating to the quality and timeliness of feedback is lagging behind the national average. However, electronic feedback platforms such as Turnitin have the potential to improve the quality, consistency and efficiency of assessment feedback, increasing student satisfaction.
This presentation, from Dr Chantelle Wood & Dr Kirsten Bartlett explores how the Department of Psychology at The University of Sheffield have used the online Turnitin platform to provide assessment feedback to students.
Specifically, strategies that maintain feedback consistency across multiple markers and modules (critical in taking a programme-level view of assessment and feedback), are described, as we all as strategies that balance the importance of providing high quality feedback with the need to ensure that this is both efficient and feasible from a staff perspective and timely from a student perspective.
The presentation will take a critical stance, covering both the advantages of using Turnitin to provide assessment feedback, but also the limitations and challenges- considering both student and staff views.
