Phoebe Cooper examines the popular 2016 hit, Work From Home by Firth Harmony. Phoebe argues that the song's lyrics help to maintain gender roles through degrading lyrics, and displays and normalises hegemonic masculinity as a dominant form. Phoebe suggests, however, that it could be a new era of freeing sexual identities and reducing the disparities of judgement between men and women's sexual behaviours. Phoebe states that the power of the mass media as a tool which shapes societal expectations and understandings of sexuality, gender and masculinities, and she says more needs to be done to combat the harmful messages portrayed in the media and through popular music.
