Used well visual information can greatly enhance the impact of your communication, and posters are a great way to present your research to a wide audience.
- Know your audience - be aware of the terminology you use
- Identify your message - think about what message you want to convey before you start creating your poster.
- Have a clear narrative - by identifying your message before starting you can ensure that this runs throughout your poster and that your narrative follows this message clearly.
- Keep it concise - you do not want to overload your poster with text; make sure your points are concise and easy to understand.
- Make it visual - do not simply write out a load of text; posters are made to be visual!
- Text and layout - working with text and layout is thinking about what you are trying to convey, before you think about how it should look. Your choice of font, size, line length and layout of text/images should always help to lead your reader through the poster and make it as easy as possible to understand the information.
- Images - these can add detail and depth to an argument but convey complex information in an accessible way, and offers the audience a different way of engaging with your ideas.
