Are you preparing to attend a lecture for the first time and want to know how to take effective notes? Or have you recently been reviewing your lecture notes and want to get some tips on how to improve the way you record information? Taking notes in lectures and on your reading sounds simple, but ensuring you capture the salient information in a legible and concise way can be tricky. Having effective notes can help you in your revision of the topic, as well as planning for essays and knowing when you need to do some more reading on a subject.
This workshop will give you practical guidance and information on the techniques that will enable you to take more effective notes. You will learn about listening techniques, as taking notes isn’t just about writing well but also actively listening to the lecturer and accurately recording what they are saying. You will learn and practise some note-taking techniques, and also get some tips on follow-up and post-lecture activities, which will help you get the most from your notes when you revisit them.
