More Chord Types: 7th and Suspended Chords

So far this week we’ve encountered major and minor chords - the two main chord types that are used in songwriting. But you can create a range of different chord types by adding or changing notes in these chords.
In this video, we’re going to look at three more types:
Major or minor 7th
- A basic chord of three notes - 1st, 3rd, and 5th - with the 7th note added (that is, 7 notes away from the bottom note).
Suspended
- In a suspended chord, we take a major chord of three notes and replace the third note with a 4th.
Dominant 7th
- Again, this is based on a chord of three notes - 1st, 3rd, and 5th - with the 7th note added, but this time with the 7th note lowered by half a step. For example, while C major 7th would be formed with the 1st-3rd-5th-7th or C-E-G-B; C dominant 7th would be C-E-G-Bb.
