C-PDO #6 (Continuing Professional Development Online) - Twitter for Academics
From Andy Tattersall
The purpose of this one hour session is to help those new to Twitter or wanting to get more from the platform in an academic capacity. We will look at how you can use scheduling tools, the importance of visual Tweets and how to create a good Twitter profile.
The session will be useful to those who use Twitter to communicate their research, are involved in and support projects that use the platform, and those who want to engage with their students via social media.
At the end of the session you will:
- Understand the purpose of Twitter
- Know how to navigate Twitter
- Know how to write an impactful Tweet
- Understand Twitter jargon
- Know how to deal with problematic issues to do with Trolls and online abuse
Twitter is an incredibly useful tool for academics that allows them to share their work, make useful connections and discover the latest research and discussions in their field. The purpose of this workshop will show those new to Twitter or have been using it for some time how to get more from it.
The session will give attendees an opportunity to create a good Twitter profile, build their networks and learn how to Tweet effectively. We will look at tools for enhancing your social media experience and how to minimise the time and effort you invest in Twitter but maximise what you get out of it.
