When undertaking a Health Technology Assessment at ScHARR, there will often be a need for at least one clinical trial to provide evidence of the effectiveness of a new treatment. In this video, we talk to Professor Jonathan Nicholl, Dean of the School of Health and Related Research, who will take us through the reasons behind undertaking a clinical trial.
We then visit one of the NIHR Clinical Research Facilities based at the two main hospital sites in Sheffield. The facilities are formally recognised as centres of excellence by the Department of Health and are funded in partnership with the National Institute for Health Research, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and the University of Sheffield. Here, Cindy Cooper, Director of the Clinical Trials Research Unit and Professor of Health Services Research and Clinical Trials will talk about how you design and undertake a trial as a part of the HTA process.
