The Labyrinths of Sheffield

The Labyrinths of Sheffield

Welcome to The Labyrinths of Sheffield - an opportunity for members of the public to make their way through an outdoor labyrinth, specially created for reflection, relaxation and enjoyment.

Labyrinths, unlike mazes, have only one path, the inward journey to the centre and the outward path back - there are no dead ends. As you follow this path through the labyrinth, be open to possibilities. This space asks nothing from you. Make your way towards the centre, in your own time, before resting for a while if you wish, and retracing your way back out into the world, returning to your day, and the opportunities this brings.

Three of these labyrinths, co-designed by members of the local community, artists and academics, are open to visitors to the Festival of the Mind 2018 in sites at:

  • Sheffield Cathedral

  • Weston Park

  • St Mary's Church, Bramall Lane

They are open between the hours of 11am and 3pm daily from 22nd -30th September and are accessible to anybody including those with wheelchairs and pushchairs. The creation of the labyrinths draws on the research project led by The University of Sheffield, 'IWUN: Improving Wellbeing through Urban Nature'.
